Over the past 10 years, I’ve written more than 300 Tributes.

It struck me that most of these words are heard only once. They live in a single moment - in a chapel, at a graveside - and then quietly disappear. And yet, every time I sit down with a family, the same truth emerges: once you begin to tell someone’s story, it is never ordinary.

So, I have collated around forty of the most compelling lives I’ve had the privilege to help tell in a book. The title Once You’ve Heard Their Story is inspired by a simple but profound line attributed to Fred Rogers:
“There isn’t anyone you couldn’t learn to love once you’ve heard their story.”
In my experience, that has proven to be true time and again.

Each piece is presented in its original tribute form and included with the kind permission of the families involved. Together, they form a remarkable collection of lives - distinct, deeply human, and often quietly extraordinary.
